LOS ANGELES -- In his continued dedication to the Los Angeles community, Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier will be volunteering at several events during this holiday season.

The outfielder's volunteerism is inspired by his passion for food and his mission to help end hunger and homelessness in Los Angeles. Ethier's offseason goodwill tour begins Thursday, when the outfielder participates in the Dodgers Dream Foundation's fourth annual Dodgers' Community Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway at Dodger Stadium from 5 to 7 p.m. He will join Hall of Fame manager and special advisor to the chairman Tommy Lasorda and Dodgers legends "Sweet" Lou Johnson and Bobby Castillo in helping to distribute complimentary turkeys and fixings to six hundred preselected families.

Ethier will then visit the Union Rescue Mission this Saturday, November 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in downtown Los Angeles. The Mission, located at 545 S. San Pedro St., will be a hosting "Thanksgiving in Whoville" event. Ethier will help serve Thanksgiving meals, hand out 1,000 blankets and sign autographs. This is Ethier's second visit this year to Union Rescue mission. The outfielder kicked out his community initiative to help the homeless at Union Rescue mission in June.

"One of the things I appreciate most about Union Rescue Mission is their commitment to getting children off the street and into a safe, nurturing environment where they are free to learn and play and even dream, as children should," said Ethier. "Giving back to the community is something that is extremely important to me, especially during the holiday season."

On Dec. 5, Ethier will partake in the Dodgers' Holiday caravan by visiting Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, located at 4650 Sunset Blvd., from 1 to 3 p.m. Following the visit and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Ethier will head to Best Buy, located at 2909 Los Feliz Blvd, and host a holiday gift giveaway event. Ethier will donate $2,000 to buy holiday presents for needy families and Best Buy will match the outfielder's contribution, allowing dozens of youngsters to purchase gifts at the holidays.

Ethier initiated his holiday volunteerism and was one of the most active community advocates among uniformed personnel during the 2008 season. In just two-plus seasons with the Dodgers, he has become a regular in the Los Angeles community, as he has taken part in multiple visits to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. While the team was in Washington D.C. in 2006 and 2007, the outfielder visited with patients at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Ethier has also hosted a Play Ball LA Clinic at Challenger Little League in El Segundo and personally donated money to the league after being inspired by the youngsters during his visit. He has also spoken to campers at the annual Dodger Youth Baseball Camp, and has taken part in the Dodger Community Caravan the last two seasons. In addition to volunteering at the Union Rescue Mission this past season, Ethier also visited with the homeless at the Weingart Center in downtown Los Angeles.

Ethier also regularly reviews Los Angeles restaurants on his blog launched earlier this year, "Dining with Dre." "Dining with Dre" on includes Ethier's top dining spots and favorite foods and can be accessed directly at
