Individual tickets for 2009 World Baseball Classic on sale Jan. 19

Individual game tickets for World Baseball Classic games in Toronto and San Juan (Round One), San Diego and Miami (Round Two), and the Semi-Finals and Final in Los Angeles will go on sale Monday, January 19, World Baseball Classic, Inc. announced today. Tickets for Round One games in Tokyo and Mexico City will go on sale January 31 and February 10, respectively. Complete information on ticket sales is attached.

All four Pools of the opening round of the 2009 tournament will be hosted outside of the 50 United States, with Pool A (China, Chinese Taipei, Japan and Korea) competing at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan; Pool B (Australia, Cuba, Mexico and South Africa) at Foro Sol Stadium in Mexico City, Mexico; Pool C (Canada, Italy, United States and Venezuela) at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada; and Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico home to Pool D (Dominican Republic, Netherlands, Panama and Puerto Rico).

The tournament's second round will take place from March 14 - 19 and feature the top two teams from each pool of Round One play in a double-elimination format. The top two finishers from Pool A (Tokyo) and Pool B (Mexico City) will play at PETCO Park in San Diego, California, the site of the 2006 World Baseball Classic Finals Weekend. Teams advancing out of Pool C (Toronto) and Pool D (San Juan) will compete at Dolphin Stadium, home of the Florida Marlins, in Miami, Florida. The Semi-Finals and Final will be played from March 21 - 23 in historic Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California. The top two teams from each second round pool will advance to the single-elimination Semi-Final games and the winners of those games will compete for the 2009 World Baseball Classic Championship.

Ticket strips for all rounds are also still available to purchase. Ticket strips for the pools of Round One and Round Two will consist of six tickets, one to each of the six games played in an individual venue. Ticket strips for the Semi-Finals and Final games will consist of three tickets, one to each of the games played in Dodger Stadium.

Media members representing 25 different nations attended the 39 games in seven host venues across three countries/territories. The upcoming World Baseball Classic will be played from March 5 - 23 and will again feature 16 of the greatest baseball-playing nations in the world. The tournament will be held every four years thereafter, with plans in place to expand the participant field beginning in 2013.
