John Sorrentino Vice President, Business Development |
John Sorrentino has been with the Houston Astros organization since 1987. After two years as vice president of sponsorship sales, John returned to his previous role as vice president of business development in May of 2009. In his current role, John is responsible for developing new corporate sales opportunities in print, radio, television, in-stadium signage and promotions. Added to his duties is the ticket sales and marketing of the newly-designed Press Club, a premium seating area at Minute Maid Park located behind homeplate. John also assists Foundation Development in their efforts in fundraising and business development and is responsible for the sales and service of the Diamond Club level premium seating areas. John became the club's vice president of ticket sales and services on July 22, 1999, managing the entire ticket department at Minute Maid Park, including group, season and individual game ticket sales, as well as box office and customer service management. The 2004 season turned out to be the most prosperous year for John and his staff. The Astros set a franchise record for attendance, drawing 3,087,872 fans to Minute Maid Park, including 24 sellouts. John was also responsible for the tickets and distribution services for the 2004 All-Star Game at Minute Maid Park and related events. The new club attendance record eclipsed the mark set during the 2000 season, the inaugural campaign at Minute Maid Park, when 3,056,139 tickets were sold at the new downtown ballpark, becoming the then-only Texas sports franchise to surpass the three million mark. The team drew more than 2.9 million fans in 2001, then the third-highest total in franchise history. John joined the Astros in 1987 as a ticket account executive. He was later named director of community services in 1989 before moving back to the ticket services operations. From 1999-2000, he oversaw the seating relocation of the Astrodome's season ticket holders to Minute Maid Park. The 1983 graduate of Texas A&M began his career as a sales manager for the Houston Gamblers USFL football team. John has served on the board of directors for SEARCH, a United Way agency, and still consults with that agency on fundraising projects. He also serves on the charity board of directors for the Administaff Small Business Classic Senior PGA Tour event, held in Spring every October. John and his four children, Andrew, J.D., Patricia, and Hannah, reside in Kingwood, TX. |
