The Dodgers Dream Foundation endowed a $1 million scholarship fund - the Los Angeles Dodgers "Team 42" Scholarship Program ("Team 42") - in honor of the legendary Jackie Robinson on April 15, 2005. The date marks the anniversary of the Hall of Fame infielder breaking baseball's color barrier.
Inspired by Robinson's jersey number, the "Team 42" program will award 42 scholarships annually to students in the greater Los Angeles area attending a four-year college or university. The program represents the Dodgers' largest commitment to scholarships for higher education to date, and is yet another example of how the Dodgers Dream Foundation continues to provide educational support for area youth.
The first "Team 42" scholarships was awarded for the 2006 academic year. The program is administered by the Jackie Robinson Foundation. Students interested in applying to the "Team 42" scholarship program should contact the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
