Dodgers host second annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway
The Dodgers Dream Foundation in partnership with Ralphs and Food 4 Less and Los Angeles City Councilmember Ed P. Reyes and Council President Eric Garcetti hosted the second annual Dodgers' Community Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at Dodger Stadium.
Five hundred pre-selected families received a complimentary turkey and fixings provided by Ralphs and Food 4 Less. Dodgers' Hall of Fame Manager and current Special Advisor to the Chairman Tommy Lasorda and former Dodgers "Sweet" Lou Johnson and Bobby Castillo along with Councilmember Ed Reyes and Council President Eric Garcetti and representatives from Ralphs and Food 4 less were on hand to help distribute the turkeys and fixings.
"Last year's inaugural event was a great success and was able to touch the lives of hundreds of families in Los Angeles," said Dodgers' Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Howard Sunkin. "We're thrilled to be able to partner with City Councilmembers Reyes and Garcetti and our friends at Ralphs and Food 4 Less to make this holiday season a special one for many local families."
Ralphs and Food 4 Less believe in being good corporate citizens by contributing to the diverse communities their supermarkets serve. Each year, Ralphs and Food 4 Less provide more than $10 million in cash and in-kind donations to organizations focused on health, education, the fight against hunger, the advancement of women and minorities, and developing our youth.
"Ralphs and Food 4 Less are proud to join with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Dodgers Dream Foundation to help make this Thanksgiving special for many families who otherwise might not have the resources to enjoy a turkey dinner with all the fixings," said Dave Hirz, president of Ralphs Supermarkets. "We hope that our support of the Dodgers' Thanksgiving turkey giveaway will bring smiles and hope to many less-fortunate families and children in our community this Thanksgiving."
Ralphs Grocery Company was founded in 1873 and currently operates more than 450 conventional and warehouse-style supermarkets under the Ralphs, Food 4 Less, and Foods Co banners in California, Nevada, Illinois and Indiana from its headquarters in Los Angeles.
Founded in 1998, the Dodgers Dream Foundation (DDF) was created to provide educational, athletic and recreational opportunities for the youth of the Greater Los Angeles community. The Foundation places special emphasis on helping traditionally under-served youth.
