Commissioner's Fan Initiative

Baseball, as the National Pastime, is dedicated to preserving its special place in the heart of its fans
Orlando Hudson
FansMajor League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig announced the creation of the COMMISSIONER'S FAN INITIATIVE, designed to let fans know that they and their families are a priority to Major League Baseball. MLB has always insisted on being the most affordable and accessible of all professional sports and in 2009 MLB intends to go even further. Baseball, as the national pastime, is dedicated to preserving its special place in the heart of its fans. In addition to more fan-friendly ticket packages, MLB.com has developed a "Fan Corner" on all team websites that will direct fans, quickly and easily, to each team's promotions, ticket discounts and family packages, as well as each team's community events.
Dodgers CEO Jamie McCourt was a leading and vocal proponent of the national Commissioner's Fan Initiative.
Fans with Jamie McCourt"I contacted the Commissioner last fall to tell him I believed MLB needed to be more aggressive in telling our fans and their families how important they are to us. As everyone was talking about how the economy is going to affect the game, he and I discussed something more important and relevant: how the economy is affecting our fans and their families. Though we know baseball has long been the most affordable, accessible, and family-oriented of professional sports, we also know our fans hold baseball to a higher standard than any other because of its values and because it is valuable to them and their families.

Andre Ethier in CrowdWe intend to show our fans and their families that we value their devotion to the game and hope to offer the kinds of ticket and event packages that will make baseball a memorable, meaningful, and affordable piece of their summer of 2009. This is more than an initiative; it is a commitment. I hope that Dodger fans and their families take the time to see what we have planned at Dodger Stadium this summer. I also hope they will join us in some of our service activities in the Los Angeles community. Baseball and the Dodgers are an important and barrier-breaking part of America's history and tradition. The 2009 Fan Initiative is intended to show we never forget that."
