March 26, 1974 > The Boston Red Sox part ways with two future Hall of Famers, handing shortstop Luis Aparicio and DH Orlando Cepeda their unconditional releases. Aparicio will elect to retire, finishing his career with 2677 hits and 506 stolen bases. Cepeda will hang on for 33 games with the Kansas City Royals, then call it quits on a career that produced 379 home runs and a .297 batting average.
