This Day in Baseball History
June 27, 2000 > The Los Angeles Dodgers release 41-year-old Orel Hershiser, who then announces his retirement from Major League Baseball. During his 18-year career, Hershiser won 204 games and was a three-time All-Star. His best season came in 1988, when he won the NL Cy Young Award thanks to a record 59 consecutive scoreless innings.
