The Yankees reportedly have acted swiftly to the loss of lefty ace Andy Pettitte as a free agent, reaching a tentative agreement with the Dodgers on a trade that would bring veteran right-hander Kevin Brown to the Bronx and send Jeff Weaver to Los Angeles.
Newsday and The Associated Press, the latter of which attributed its source to baseball officials, said the deal is contingent upon the players passing physicals and Brown's approval to waive his no-trade clause.
Neither team confirmed the reports.
Both Newsday and the AP reported the Yankees would send Los Angeles two minor leaguers and $3 million to cover part of the $18.75 million Weaver is owed in 2004 and 2005.
