MINNEAPOLIS -- Manager Grady Little can't wait to flip his calendar on Saturday.

The Dodgers are 10-14 in June heading into Wednesday's series finale against Minnesota, assuring them a losing record this month. The club hasn't posted a winning mark in June since 2003, when it went 14-11.

If they drop their final two games this month, the Dodgers will be just three games off from their worst June, which came in 1979 when the team went 7-20.

"You can blame it on whatever you want, but it's passed and we have to move forward," Little said.

"[It's] just a combination of everything. We can't really leave anyone out of it when we're talking about why we fell a little bit in the month of June."

The Dodgers had been tied or leading the National League West in 14 of the last 18 days before falling back a half-game to San Diego on Wednesday. The Dodgers acquired left-handed starter Mark Hendrickson, along with catcher Toby Hall, from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays with hopes of bolstering the back end of the rotation.

Little wouldn't say if the Dodgers need to make another deal to stay in the pennant race.

"Every day that Ned Colletti wakes up, he tries to think of ways and means to improve us more," Little said. "I think all we can talk about doing is performing to our capabilities the best that we can."

On Tuesday, Colletti said pitching remains the team's No. 1 priority.

"This deal will not preclude me from doing something else," he said after acquiring Hendrickson and Hall. "We don't have anything out there right now that's imminent, but in my mind we're not finished yet. Hopefully we'll be able to keep shoring up the pitching, either at the beginning of the game or at the end of the game."

Moving Kemp up in the order: Right fielder Matt Kemp batted third in the lineup Wednesday for only the second time this season. In the previous two games of the series, when Kemp went 0-for-7, he hit in the seventh spot.

After joining the big leagues in late May, the rookie hit seven home runs during the first half of this month, but hasn't hit one since. Since hitting a home run on June 14 against San Diego, Kemp is 9-for-40 with just two RBIs.

"He came in, he was hot and he cooled off a little bit," Little said. "Maybe a change in the lineup will help him out a little bit."

Kemp grounded out in the first inning and struck out in the fourth on Wednesday.

Rest for Martin: Little gave rookie catcher Russell Martin a day off from behind the plate. Martin is batting in the No. 9 spot as the designated hitter

Sandy Alomar, who started for just the 11th time this season, shot the left-center field gap for a double in the second inning for the Dodgers' first hit off Johan Santana.

Down on the farm: Shortstop Wilson Valdez went 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored, but Triple-A Las Vegas fell to Tacoma, 6-1, on Tuesday. Starter D.J. Houlton pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed four runs to take the loss. ... Second baseman Tony Abreu recorded a double and a single as Double-A Jacksonville lost, 10-1, to Carolina. ... Left fielder Lucas May doubled and collected a pair of RBIs, but Class A Columbus lost to Charleston, 4-2.

Coming up: Following an off-day Thursday, the Dodgers begin a three-game set at Anaheim on Friday. Brad Penny faces Angels right-hander Bartolo Colon with the first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. PT.
