PHOENIX -- Dodgers starting pitcher Derek Lowe, working on a shutout on Saturday night, had to leave the game against the Diamondbacks with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning after suffering a contusion when he was struck on the left thumb by a Chad Tracy line drive. X-rays were negative.

Tracy was safe at first as Lowe spun off the mound in pain, stopping near shortstop momentarily, then leaving the field with assistant trainer Matt Wilson.

At the time of the injury, the Dodgers were leading, 3-0, and Lowe had driven in the third run on a fielder's choice in the top half of the fourth inning.

Lowe came into the game 11-8 with a 3.84 ERA, having won four of his last five starts. He was replaced by left-handed reliever Joe Beimel. The injury comes one day after Greg Maddux pitched only five innings of a 15-inning 9-7 loss to Arizona.
