Padres at the plate: Kevin Kouzmanoff hit a solo home run and Paul McAnulty doubled in a run as the Padres jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning McAnulty and catcher Josh Bard each had two hits and an RBI.

Brewers at the plate: Jake Peavy walked Prince Fielder in the first inning and Ryan Braun made him pay, launching a go-ahead, three-run home run to center field. It was Braun's fourth home run, tying teammate Gabe Gross and the rest of the Cactus League leaders in that category. The top four hitters in Milwaukee's lineup all had at least one hit and scored at least one run.

Padres on the mound: Peavy pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs with three walks and five strikeouts. Former Brewers Glendon Rusch and Joe Thatcher were sharp in relief, holding their former team hitless over 2 2/3 innings after Peavy exited. Rusch did not allow a hit in his 1 2/3 inning stint.

Brewers on the mound: Dave Bush continued his push for a starting rotation spot with five innings of work. He surrendered two runs on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts, holding San Diego scoreless on two hits over his final four innings. Carlos Villanueva earned the save after scattering four hits and allowing one run in four innings. He stranded two Padres runners on base in the ninth.

Cactus League records: Padres 10-10, Brewers 15-8.

Up next for Padres: San Diego pitcher Chris Young gets the start Saturday for the Padres at 1:05 p.m. PT against the Texas Rangers in Surprise. Young is set to throw either five or six innings in what should be his second-to-last start before the regular season. Young, the No. 2 starter in the rotation, is 1-0 with a 4.00 ERA in nine innings this spring.

Up next for Brewers: Claudio Vargas will go for Spring Training win No. 4 when he faces Matt Cain and the San Francisco Giants in Scottsdale on Saturday at 3:05 p.m. CT. Vargas is 3-0 with a 2.40 ERA in four starts, and has walked only three batters in 14 innings of work. Derrick Turnbow and closer Eric Gagne are among those scheduled to work in relief for the Brewers, who will continue to evaluate the health of shortstop J.J. Hardy (flu) and second baseman Rickie Weeks (hand).
