He replaced his shoes. He replaced his helmet. He replaced his uniform pants and would have replaced his jersey if the Dodgers had an extra one the correct size.
He also huddled around the laptop with hitting guru Don Mattingly, studying video of his glory days of 1998 and 1999. Jones says only then did they spot a major flaw in his batting stance that locked up his front leg and resulted in him pulling away from pitches. The adjustment they made seemed to pay immediate dividends.
He drew a clutch ninth-inning pinch-hit walk Tuesday after sitting out most of the series opener against Milwaukee, had a pair of hits in the second game and launched only his second home run of the season Thursday to trigger a six-run seventh inning and a 7-2 Dodgers win.
"I just keep working, doing the best I can every day," said Jones. "Mattingly has a lot of interesting stuff to say. Nothing against [full-time hitting coach Mike Easler], but there were a couple things [Mattingly] saw. We worked on it. These are just two games. There are a lot more games left and I have to keep it up."
