Royals lose reliever Fulchino to Astros
Right-hander pitched sparingly in only season with KC
LAS VEGAS -- Right-handed pitcher Jeff Fulchino was claimed off waivers from the Royals by the Houston Astros on Monday.
Fulchino made 12 relief outings in two stints last season for the Royals, posting an 0-1 record and 9.00 ERA. For Triple-A Omaha, he pitched in 25 games, making five starts, and went 3-4 with a 4.84 ERA. He also appeared in two games in a brief stay with Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
A 6-foot-5, 250-pounder, Fulchino was signed as a Minor League free agent by the Royals last February. He previously was in the Florida Marlins' organization, making his Major League debut in 2006. That was the only game he pitched for the Marlins.
Fulchino, 29, has a Minor League mark of 45-49. He also has six saves and a 4.45 ERA in 182 games, including 154 starts.
The claim reduced the Royals' 40-man roster to 38.
