Moore dismisses Francoeur rumor
KC's GM says Greinke not dangled for Atlanta outfielder
LAS VEGAS -- Royals general manager Dayton Moore hates unfounded trade rumors and he loves to squelch them.
So, as Moore walked down a hallway of Bellagio Hotel on Tuesday en route to a GMs' meeting, he couldn't resist calling aside a reporter.
"There's nothing to the Greinke-Francoeur story," he said with a smile, then went on his way.
That popped up earlier in the day when Tony Massarotti of the Boston Globe wrote that a "National League executive" said the Royals and Atlanta had "serious discussions" about a trade that would send pitcher Zack Greinke to the Braves for outfielder Jeff Francoeur.
But Moore promptly denied the story, in line with comments he made on Monday night about his reluctance to trade Greinke or outfielders Mark Teahen and David DeJesus.
Reports about the Kansas City's purported interest in Francoeur also surfaced a few weeks ago but there has been no concrete evidence the Royals pursued such a deal.
