Closer Jonathan Broxton allowed four earned runs and was knocked out in the ninth inning.

Cactus League records: Mariners 13-12-4, Dodgers 12-13

Up next: Ramirez is scheduled to make his first outfield appearance since injuring his hamstring 10 days ago as the Dodgers play Milwaukee on the road on Wednesday. Eric Stults gets the start, needing a strong outing to stay alive in the fifth-starter competition. He will be followed by another candidate for the role, Claudio Vargas.

The Mariners are off Wednesday. On Thursday, they host Kansas City, with Felix Hernandez starting for Seattle. It will be his second spring appearance for the Mariners and first since returning from World Baseball Classic competition for Team Venezuela, where he beat Italy twice, allowing no runs in 8 2/3 innings with 11 strikeouts and six walks.
