Torre flips Ethier, Loney in lineup
Outfielder is 16-for-24 against Giants starter
LOS ANGELES -- For Tuesday night's game with the Giants, manager Joe Torre changed the lineup that produced 11 runs in Monday's game.
He switched left-handed hitters Andre Ethier and James Loney for the second time this year, moving Ethier up to fourth and dropping Loney back to sixth. It was the other way around the first five games of the season.
Torre said the change wasn't prompted by Ethier's two-homer game Monday but by his 16-for-24 history against San Francisco starting pitcher Matt Cain.
"I don't like to change things after winning a game, but that was pretty impressive," said Torre. "That's a good sampling, 24 at-bats."
Ethier came into the game hitting .250 and Loney .355, while No. 3 hitter Manny Ramirez is hitting .304.
