Torre extension talk is just that for now

LA skipper says managing beyond '10 is 'still discussion'

11/13/09 9:49 PM EST

LOS ANGELES -- What's the status of talks to extend the contract of Dodgers manager Joe Torre?

Hard to tell, even after listening to Torre address the subject at his "Safe at Home Foundation" fundraising dinner in New York on Friday night.

Torre was asked if he was definitely planning to manage beyond 2010, the final year of his three-year deal.

"No," he said. "I had some discussion about possibly extending another year, but that's still discussion now. In fact, I talked to Ned [Colletti, general manager] today. I just told him I wanted a couple of weeks to think more about it.

"The reason I even suggested it is because it's been fun. It's still fun. L.A. is getting more comfortable and there seems to be progress that we're making. As long as I can keep my coaching staff intact, it's exciting for me. I still have the energy to do it."

Stay tuned.
