PHOENIX -- A 6.4 earthquake struck southern Taiwan early Thursday, not far from Kaohsiung, where the Dodgers are scheduled to play the final game of a three-game goodwill series a week from Sunday.

A Dodgers official said the club was monitoring the situation in Taiwan, but it was too early to say if the earthquake would impact the series, or whether the Dodgers would still make the trip.

A 6.3 magnitude quake also hit off the coast of Taiwan last month. The island is seismically active because it lies near the junction of two tectonic plates.

Among the players committed to leave on the team charter next Wednesday are outfielder Manny Ramirez, first baseman James Loney and infielder Jamey Carroll.
