Both pitchers sound in spring debuts, while Kemp connects
GIANTS 3, DODGERS 2, 10 innings
at Scottsdale, Ariz.
Monday, March 8
Dodgers at the plate: Matt Kemp's one-out, opposite-field home run to right opened the scoring in the first inning. Trailing, 2-1, Los Angeles pulled even in the second inning as Reed Johnson's infield single drove in a run. Johnson's swinging bunt followed a single by Blake DeWitt, who went 2-for-2.Giants at the plate: San Francisco went hitless in its first five at-bats with runners on third and less than two outs. The Giants scored in the first inning on Aaron Rowand's walk and singles by Edgar Renteria and Pablo Sandoval. They added a run in the fourth on John Bowker's one-out triple and Eugenio Velez's two-out single. With the score 2-2 in the 10th, San Francisco rallied against Dodgers right-hander Francisco Felix. Roger Kieschnick singled and Andres Torres contributed a sacrifice bunt before Ryan Rohlinger won it with a drive to right field that short-hopped the fence. Dodgers on the mound: Chad Billingsley and Clayton Kershaw, whose outing was delayed a day by Sunday's rain, recorded nearly identical pitching lines, allowing one run and three hits in two innings apiece. One difference: Billingsley issued two walks, while Kershaw had just one free pass. Giants on the mound: Barry Zito and No. 5 starting candidate Todd Wellemeyer each yielded one run in three innings. Guillermo Mota, Henry Sosa, Felix Romero and Denny Bautista added one scoreless inning apiece.

Spring Training Info
Worth noting: Buster Posey, appearing at first base for the second straight day, made a deft sliding catch of Ronnie Belliard's foul popup in the seventh inning. One inning earlier, first baseman Kevin Frandsen prevented an error by acrobatically snaring catcher Eli Whiteside's wide pickoff throw.Cactus League records: Dodgers 1-1; Giants 4-1. Up next: Hiroki Kuroda makes his first start of the spring for the Dodgers on Tuesday in a home game against Colorado. Fifth starter candidate Charlie Haeger also will pitch, and the Dodgers will take the wraps off three of their best relievers -- closer Jonathan Broxton, setup man George Sherrill and Hong-Chih Kuo. Kuroda ended last season with a herniated disk in his neck. Sherrill opened the spring with sore knees and was further slowed by taking a line drive off his right ankle last week. Tuesday should be a big day for the Giants, who confront the Chicago White Sox. Boxing legend Muhammad Ali is expected to pay them a pregame visit. The hugely popular Juan Uribe will welcome his former teammates to Scottsdale. And left fielder Mark DeRosa, recovered from left wrist surgery, might appear in his first exhibition game. On the mound, Giants right-hander Matt Cain (1-0) will oppose White Sox left-hander John Danks (0-0).
