Futures Game to feature two LA prospects
Shortstop Gordon, third baseman Baez picked for rosters
ANAHEIM -- Dodgers infield prospects Dee Gordon and Pedro Baez have been selected to the rosters for the 2010 XM Futures Game, to be played Sunday, July 11, in advance of the All-Star Game in Anaheim.
The 12th annual Futures Game can be seen live on MLB.TV, ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD and followed live on MLB.com's Gameday. In addition, XM Radio will broadcast play-by-play coverage of the event live on XM 175. MLB.com will also provide complete coverage before, during and after the game.
Gordon, a 22-year-old shortstop, will be on the United States team. Slender and athletic, he was last year's position Player of the Year in the Dodgers' Minor League system and this year at Double-A Chattanooga is hitting .279 with 26 steals.
The son of longtime Major League pitcher Tom Gordon, he is considered the heir apparent to Dodgers shortstop and leadoff hitter Rafael Furcal.
Baez, a 22-year-old third baseman, will be returning to the World team, having been selected for the Futures Game last year. His selection is a bit unusual, considering that he's been on the disabled list for six weeks after suffering a dislocated shoulder.
He also missed the last two months of 2009 with knee surgery. He was hitting .277 at Class A Inland Empire before injuring his shoulder and just began a rehab assignment in the Arizona Rookie League.
