GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera was scratched from Sunday's starting lineup against the Cubs at Goodyear Ballpark with a sore back.
"He was swinging in the cages, and he kind of tweaked his back," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "We took him out. It seems like a silly time of the year to play through something like that."
Cabrera is day to day and was replaced at short by Mike Aviles.
"I'd say probably two [days off]," Francona said. "We'll give him today and tomorrow."
On Monday, the Indians will play a road game against the Rockies at Salt River Fields.
In Cactus League play, Cabrera is batting .281 (9-for-32) with three doubles, a triple, a homer, seven RBIs and six runs scored in 13 games. A two-time American League All-Star, he hit .270 with 35 doubles last season.
