LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Thursday
that they have acquired left-handed-hitting outfielder/infielder Marlon Anderson and cash considerations from the Washington Nationals in exchange for Minor League right-hander Jhonny Nunez, according to Dodger General Manager Ned Colletti.
"Marlon is a valuable addition to our club from the
left side of the plate," said Colletti. "He's had a
lot of success coming off the bench and has also had
experience in the postseason."
Anderson, 32, is a veteran of nine Major League
seasons, compiling a .264 lifetime average with 52
homers and 318 RBI. During the 2004-05 seasons, he led
the Majors Leagues in pinch-hits with 35. In 196
career pinch-hit at-bats, Anderson has a .296 average
(57 hits), including seven homers and 29 RBI. This
season, he has 12 pinch-hits in 50 at-bats off the
bench.
This season, Anderson is batting .274 overall with
five homers and 23 RBI in 109 games (214 at-bats) for Washington.
He was a member of the 2004 National League champion
Cardinals, appearing in four games in the 2004 World
Series with the Cardinals.
In his career against the National League West,
Anderson has a .275 average (147-for-535) with 14
homers and 64 RBI.
Nunez, 20, is 6-0 with a 1.58 ERA in 10 games for the
Gulf Coast League Dodgers. He was signed as a
non-drafted free agent on Dec. 9, 2003.
