Los Angeles (4-6) vs. San Diego (6-5), Saturday, 7:10 p.m. PT
By Ken Gurnick / MLB.com
Furcal is batting .432 after a perfect Friday night at the plate -- a single, double, triple, two walks, one RBI, three runs scored. He has a seven-game hitting streak.
Loney is at .351 after slugging his second home run, an attempt at a second one falling short on the warning track. He has a career high 10-game hitting streak.
Juan Pierre, who was batting .067 two games ago, is up to .273 after going 3-for-4 and could return to the lineup for a third consecutive game Saturday night against Chris Young.
One outfielder who figures to be in the lineup is Andre Ethier, who drove in two runs Friday night and is 6-for-16 with three homers lifetime against Young.
Russell Martin had some of his best at-bats of the year, driving a double to right field, a single to center and drawing a walk.Pitching matchup
LAD: RHP Derek Lowe (0-0, 2.25 ERA)
Lowe has had no-decisions in his first two starts. He pitched out of two jams and allowed only one earned run in six innings against the Padres and faces them again in this one. His sinker was darting enough for six strikeouts, showing no ill effects from the comebacker that knocked him out of his first start. SD: RHP Chris Young (1-0, 2.13 ERA)
Young will face the Dodgers for a second time this season, this time in Los Angeles. On Sunday, he recorded his first quality start of the season, tossing seven innings and allowing two runs on five hits to the Dodgers. He walked three while striking out eight. He did give up a home run to Ethier, which matched his entire total of homers allowed at PETCO Park last year in 13 starts. In his first game against the Astros, he did not have his best command, issuing five walks. But he gave up just five hits, and now has allowed 10 hits in two games. Tidbits
Hiroki Kuroda, before his bullpen throwing session on Friday, had a bullpen bunting session. Manager Joe Torre said he did not consider having Kuroda bunt Wednesday in Phoenix when he batted with one out and a runner on second base. Torre said he would have asked Kuroda to bunt if the runner was on first base or if there were no outs, "But I would have been nervous about it." Kuroda startled Torre when he tried to bunt in his debut with his pitching hand wrapped around the barrel of the bat. ... Clayton Kershaw, the Spring Training sensation, is 0-2 with a 3.38 ERA for Double-A Jacksonville after allowing two runs in five innings Thursday night. ... Infielder Angel Chavez, designated for assignment to make room for Chan Ho Park, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas. ... The Dodgers suffered their second freak batting practice mishap in a week when a batboy was struck on the nose by a Mark Sweeney line drive. Last Saturday, outfielder Delwyn Young was struck on the right eyebrow by a Martin line drive. ... Jake Peavy is 5-1 lifetime at Dodger Stadium. Tickets
