Kent a late scratch with back spasms

Maza replaces Dodgers vet at second; Hu starts at short

CHICAGO -- Moments after the Dodgers were finished taking batting practice at chilly Wrigley Field on Tuesday, 40-year-old second baseman Jeff Kent was scratched from the starting lineup with lower back spasms.

Luis Maza, in the original lineup at shortstop, instead started at second base. Slumping Chin-lung Hu started at shortstop.

The change gave the Dodgers four rookies in the starting lineup -- three of them infielders -- for the second time in three days. In addition to Maza and Hu, third baseman Blake DeWitt and Japanese starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda are rookies.

At the time of the announcement, the Chicago temperature was 47 degrees with wind gusts off Lake Michigan up to 25 mph.
