Penny slated for rehab start Wednesday

Dodgers right-hander will throw 45 pitches at Class A

LOS ANGELES -- The schedule for the return to the starting rotation of disabled Dodgers pitcher Brad Penny has been pushed back a few days.

Penny, out since June 15 with shoulder tendinitis and bursitis, threw a bullpen session Monday and will make a 45-pitch Minor League rehabilitation start at Class A Inland Empire on Wednesday.

According to manager Joe Torre, Penny tentatively will make another rehab start Aug. 4 for Triple-A Las Vegas in New Orleans.

That would put him in line to pitch for the Dodgers in San Francisco on Aug. 9, sliding into the spot of Jason Johnson, who makes his first start for the Dodgers on Tuesday night against the Giants.
