at Phoenix, Ariz.
Friday, March 13

Rangers at the plate: Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz slugged back-to-back homers in the first inning for a 3-0 lead.

Dodgers at the plate: In his exhibition debut, Manny Ramirez walked and scored in the first inning, walked again in the third and singled in his final at-bat in the fifth. The Dodgers scored twice in the first on an RBI single by Andre Ethier and a fielder's choice grounder by Casey Blake. They tied the game at 3 in the third on a throwing error by pitcher Doug Mathis. Orlando Hudson started both rallies with a single and a walk, respectively. Delwyn Young's pinch-hit single in the ninth scored Jason Repko for the walk-off win.

Rangers on the mound: Doug Mathis allowed two runs on three hits in the first inning and an unearned third run in the third on his throwing error. Six Rangers pitchers followed Mathis and held the Dodgers scoreless before Thomas Diamond gave up the game-winner.

Dodgers on the mound: Cory Wade made his spring debut with a perfect eighth inning. Chad Billingsley started and racked up a high pitch count, leaving after 2 1/3 innings. He allowed the homers to Hamilton and Cruz in the first, finishing with four strikeouts and two walks. Stephen Randolph, contender for the second lefty-reliever job, put down the rally inherited from Billingsley. Jeff Weaver and Guillermo Mota pitched scoreless innings.

Cactus League records: Rangers 8-8, Dodgers 8-6

Up next: In Saturday's 1:05 p.m. PT "A" game against Milwaukee on the road, Clayton Kershaw will start for the Dodgers, followed on the mound by Tanyon Sturtze and Ramon Troncoso. In the "B" game against the White Sox, Eric Stults will start and be followed by Scott Elbert, who has been battling the flu.
