Dodgers take Young off 40-man roster
Outfielder had been rehabbing after elbow surgery
By Ken Gurnick / MLB.com
The outfielder had been on the disabled list, still recovering from offseason elbow surgery and serving an injury rehabilitation assignment at Triple-A Albuquerque.
The Dodgers have 10 days to either trade Young, release him or place him on waivers. If he clears waivers, the club can outright him to the Minor Leagues and keep him in the organization. Or another Major League club can claim him, but would need to bring him to the Major Leagues because he is out of options.
Young, 26, was a fourth-round Draft pick in 2002. Except for an injury rehab stint at Triple-A, Young spent all of 2008 on the Major League club, primarily as a pinch-hitter, batting .246 in 83 games.
