New ZIP code unveiled for Dodgertown

Stadium, associated property given 90090 designation

LOS ANGELES -- Dodger Stadium and the associated property now have a new ZIP code to go along with the new "Dodgertown, CA" name it was designated in October 2008.

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Saturday that the United States Postal Service will designate Dodger Stadium and its property with the new 90090 ZIP.

The unveiling took place before the Dodgers squared off against the Phillies in the third game of a four-game series.

"This is truly, truly a memorable and special occasion for the city of Los Angeles, for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and for me, a dream come true," Dodgers CEO Jamie McCourt said.

"The magic of a Major League Baseball team for the first time in history having its own ZIP code and becoming a worldwide destination."

The effort to help bring a new ZIP code to Dodger Stadium also was spearheaded by Los Angeles council member Ed Reyes and Gregory G. Graves, the Postal Service's district manager of Los Angeles.

Said Reyes of the occasion: "This new ZIP code goes far beyond the volumes of mail. There's such civic pride for the Dodgers and for the incredible community efforts that they have undertaken."

Said Graves: "Not every town in America has its own ZIP code and we're proud today to be able to announce that Dodgertown, a destination of such a great organization of such a great team, has its own ZIP code."

The ceremony took place behind home plate and included a commemorative plaque to celebrate the historic occasion.

"Now, whenever you are in the world of Dodgertown," McCourt said, "you know where home is: 90090."
