The Dodgers' second annual ThinkCure! "Radiotelewebethon" will take place Friday and Saturday on KABC 790 AM, PRIME TICKET, KCAL 9, 95.5 KLOS FM, and www.thinkcure.org to promote awareness and raise funds for cancer research.
Fans can make donations to the Dodgers' official charity online at thinkcure.org or by calling 866-554-CURE.
An associated online auction began Monday and will run through Monday, Aug. 24.
In 2008, the inaugural radio telethon raised more than $165,000 for ThinkCure!, an innovative, community-based non-profit that accelerates collaborative research to cure cancers.
"ThinkCure! is dedicated to making a difference in the fight against cancer, and last year we started to show what was possible with an annual event like this," ThinkCure! president Janet Clayton said.
"We'll offer ways in every medium -- radio, television and online -- for the community to come together and participate in our common fight against cancer. We'll also have special opportunities for fans who attend those two games on Aug. 21 and 22. It's all about doing good while have fun doing it. We know that this event will just get bigger and better every year."
There also be a new feature in this year's radiotelewebethon. Thinkcure.org will stream the names of contributors and amounts raised in real time, along with other video content, starting at 5 a.m. PT on Friday.
Several Dodgers players, coaches and front-office members also will share their personal cancer stories and encourage fans to make donations.
Brad Ausmus, Casey Blake, Jonathan Boxton, Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp, Hiroki Kuroda, Mark Loretta, Russell Martin, Doug Mientkiewicz, Mariano Duncan and Ned Colletti will discuss how cancer has impacted their lives during the broadcasts on KABC 790 AM, PRIME TICKET, KCAL 9, 95.5 KLOS FM and www.thinkcure.org.
Dodgers manager Joe Torre will join team owner Frank McCourt live on KABC's "McIntyre in the Morning" on Friday sometime between 8-9 a.m., followed by an appearance on the Mark & Brian Show on KLOS.
PRIME TICKET will host McCourt and Tommy Lasorda later in the morning and will also host Torre and a group of players at its studio at Dodger Stadium live at some point between 2-3 p.m.
ThinkCure! was launched in July 2007 by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the McCourt family, City of Hope and Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
