Martin hoping to be off crutches after evaluation

LOS ANGELES -- At the six-week mark since he went on crutches, Dodgers catcher Russell Martin was evaluated on Friday. He was optimistic that he would not have to use crutches any longer.

Martin was lost for the season in early August because of a fracture in his right hip. The 27-year-old hit .248 with five home runs and 26 RBIs. He is eligible for arbitration this offseason.
