Dodgers considering Hansen as a hitting coach
By Ken Gurnick / MLB.com
Hansen, sixth on the all-time list with 138 career pinch-hits, had two stints with the Dodgers during a 15-year Major League career. He then went into coaching and spent the past three seasons as a Minor League hitting coordinator with the D-backs.
Mattingly was the Dodgers hitting coach until he succeeded Joe Torre as manager. Jeff Pentland, Mattingly's assistant, is expected to take over for Mattingly.
General manager Ned Colletti believes multiple hitting coaches are needed. In addition to Pentland, Manny Mota is expected back. Hansen is now in the running for another assistant role, as is Chili Davis and at least one other candidate. Hansen finished his playing career with the Seattle Mariners in 2005, when Pentland was their hitting coach.
The Dodgers have not confirmed any member of Mattingly's staff. Expected to be on it: bench coach Trey Hillman, pitching coach Rick Honeycutt, third-base coach Tim Wallach, bullpen coach Ken Howell and hitting coaches Pentland and Mota. If Lopes is not added as first-base coach, Mariano Duncan could return in the role he's held the past five years.
