Dodgers expect Belisario to be at Friday's game

LOS ANGELES -- Reliever Ronald Belisario missed Thursday night's Dodger Stadium workout after spending the All-Star break in his native Venezuela, a club official said.

Belisario was detained before leaving Venezuela then missed connections in Miami, but he caught a later flight and arrived in Los Angeles late Thursday. The Dodgers expect him at Friday night's game against San Diego.

Belisario missed the entire 2011 season when he couldn't get a visa after testing positive for cocaine. Belisario missed the first 25 games of this season serving a suspension for that positive test.

Since rejoining the club, however, Belisario has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the game. Counted on for nothing coming into the season, he has earned his way to become the setup man for closer Kenley Jansen.

Belisario brought a 0.95 ERA and an eight-game scoreless streak into Saturday's game in Arizona, where he allowed two runs that sent his ERA to 1.53.

His surprising effectiveness has been key to a bullpen that has lost Todd Coffey and Blake Hawksworth to elbow surgeries, Matt Guerrier to elbow tendinitis and Javy Guerra to knee surgery. Only Guerra has returned.
