LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers announced today that beginning with tonight's 7:10 p.m. game against the San Francisco Giants, the Dodgers will broadcast 60 regular season games on Radio Korea 1540 AM, the Dodgers' official Korean radio partner. Korean left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu is tonight's starting pitcher and makes his Major League debut on the mound this evening.
"We are excited that Ryu's first start will be accessible to the Korean-speaking community tonight," said Dodger Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Lon Rosen. "We look forward to continuing the Dodgers' longstanding relationship with Radio Korea and working toward strengthening our connection with the Korean community in Southern California and back in Ryu's native country."
The Dodgers and Radio Korea share a long history and Radio Korea's first Dodger broadcast took place in 1990. When he makes his Dodger debut tonight, Ryu will become just the 14th South Korea native to play in the Majors and the fourth to play for the Dodgers behind Hee-Seop Choi (2004-2005), Jae Seo (2006) and Chan Ho Park (1994-2001, 2008), who was the first Korean to play in the Majors when he made his debut in 1994.
"Radio Korea is very excited to be the official Korean language broadcaster of the Dodgers," said Richard Choi, Vice Chairman of Radio Korea Media Group. "We have a long history with the Dodgers. And with the new ownership of the Dodgers and Hyun-Jin Ryu from Korea, this will be a very special season for the Korean community."
Radio Korea broadcasters Richard Choi and Chong Ho Yim will call all scheduled Dodger games below. Additional games will be added throughout the season.
