Dodgers ink second-round pick Verdugo
By Spencer Fordin / MLB.com
The Dodgers have reached agreement on terms with Alex Verdugo, their second-round selection in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft. The Dodgers have not confirmed the signing.
Verdugo, a left-handed hitting outfielder, signed for $914,600, and while he was a two-way player in high school, the Dodgers don't expect him to pitch as a professional.
Verdugo, who played his prep ball at Sahuaro High School in Tucson, Ariz., was taken with the 62nd overall pick in the Draft. The lefty batted .532 as a senior, and he logged a 4-3 record on the mound. Verdugo turned 18 a month ago, and he'll get a chance to start his career at a low-level affiliate.
