7/28/2016 | Source: Mets to recall Nimmo, DL Lagares

The Mets will recall outfielder Brandon Nimmo from Triple-A Las Vegas for Friday's game against the Rockies, with outfielder Juan Lagares likely to go on the disabled list with a thumb injury, a source confirmed to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. The club has not confirmed either move.

7/28/2016 | Rivera helps at dish, but hurts on bases, with bunt

With a 3-for-4 performance in the Mets' 2-1 loss to the Rockies on Wednesday, Rene Rivera's second start in four days, his July batting average rose to .357. The 5-foot-10, 215-pound catcher has never been known for his speed, though. So while it looked like he might've gotten a bit too ambitious trying to stretch an RBI double into a triple in the second inning, Rivera offered an alternative explanation.

7/28/2016 | Familia can't convert immediate shot at redemption

Jeurys Familia was sitting quietly in a far corner of the Mets' clubhouse late Thursday afternoon when David Wright emerged from a back room, offered Familia a quick, reassuring pat on the shoulder, then disappeared as quickly as he had arrived. If Familia is as human as he says, and as human as he looked in blowing a second consecutive save in a 2-1 loss to the Rockies, he must have needed the reassurance.

7/28/2016 | Chatwood, Matz try to keep Mets, Rox in park

Rockies right-hander Tyler Chatwood has allowed 39 home runs in his four-year career, but only one has come at the hands of the Mets. The culprit? Yoenis Cespedes, who has mashed his fair share of homers since getting traded to the Mets. But nearly a year later, Cespedes' injury problems have lately gained as much attention as his home run swing. The star outfielder might not be in the lineup when Chatwood takes the hill at Citi Field on Friday night opposite Steven Matz.

7/28/2016 | Rox rally in 9th, hand Mets un-Familia-r feeling

A Mets team that has not won consecutive games in three weeks is reeling. A Rockies club looking to establish itself as a postseason contender was more than happy on Thursday to take advantage. The Rockies scored the game-tying run on a fielding error and the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the ninth inning at Citi Field, tagging Jeurys Familia for his second blown save in as many days in a 2-1 win over the Mets.

7/28/2016 | Ceremony, giveaways highlight Piazza Weekend

Last week, Mike Piazza was enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. This weekend, he'll be honored in Queens, the borough where he turned into an icon. It'll be Piazza Weekend at Citi Field, where the catcher's No. 31 will be retired on Saturday in a ceremony that will be streamed live on MLB.com.

7/28/2016 | Rosario new top Mets prospect; Draft picks rise

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson could not have been clearer this week in saying that the Mets will not deal away any of their top prospects prior to Monday's non-waiver Trade Deadline. MLBPipeline.com's annual midseason prospect re-ranking provides a richer picture of just who those prospects are. June draftees Justin Dunn, Anthony Kay and Peter Alonso all cracked the Top 15 of the Mets' new list, which shortstop Amed Rosario tops.

7/28/2016 | Cespedes' quad injury flares up

A day after crushing a go-ahead, two-run homer off the facing of Citi Field's second deck in left field, Yoenis Cespedes was out of the lineup with the same right quad injury that has affected him since before the All-Star break.

7/28/2016 | Approaching history, Familia sees streak end

What the Cardinals did on Wednesday night was nearly as dispiriting as what the Padres did to Jeurys Familia last July 30, waiting out two rain delays to beat him on a nightmare afternoon for the Mets in New York.

7/27/2016 | Yadi haunts Mets as Cards end Familia's run

Their star pitcher had been bested. All their momentum had vanished. To beat the Mets on Wednesday night, the Cardinals would need to topple Mets All-Star closer Jeurys Familia, which no team had done in the regular season in nearly a year. Pulling off that unlikely feat in front of a hostile Citi Field crowd, the Cardinals stole a 5-4 game and a series victory from the Mets, winning two of three in a series of two National League Wild Card contenders.

7/27/2016 | Reyes targets Friday return from intercostal strain

A day after suffering a Grade 1 strain of his left intercostal muscle, Jose Reyes said he hopes he can return to the Mets by Friday for their game against the Rockies at Citi Field. Reyes called Wednesday's series finale against the Cardinals a "treatment day," with no plans to be available as a pinch-hitter or defensive replacement off the bench. He will also rest Thursday, in the hope of returning as soon as Friday.

7/27/2016 | Rockies, Mets open weekend set with matinee

While his teammates sat around the clubhouse waiting for batting practice to begin on Wednesday afternoon, Rockies lefty Tyler Anderson was packing his suitcase for New York. He flew out before the series finale in Baltimore started because he's set to start the quick turnaround against the Mets at 1:10 p.m. ET on Thursday at Citi Field.

7/27/2016 | Dependable Colon delivers needed gem for Mets

Bartolo Colon gave the Mets seven strong innings Tuesday in a 3-1 win in Game 2 of a doubleheader. So efficient was Colon that manager Terry Collins removed him after seven innings and 87 pitches, with plans to bring him back Saturday on short rest.

7/26/2016 | Reyes has Grade 1 left intercostal strain

Jose Reyes, whose initial Mets tenure was fraught with injuries and frequent trips to the disabled list, is dealing with another malady less than three weeks into his return to New York. Reyes suffered a Grade 1 left intercostal strain in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals.

7/26/2016 | Smoker has brief callup as Mets' 26th man

Former first-round Draft pick Josh Smoker, whom the Mets signed following a free-agent tryout in 2015, has completed his unorthodox arc to the big leagues. The Mets planned to call up Smoker as their 26th man for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, a brief reward for his unexpected ascension through the Minors.

7/26/2016 | Mets turn tables on Cards to earn split of twin bill

The sun had just set at Citi Field, but the nightcap of a Tuesday doubleheader between the Mets and Cardinals was starting to look a lot like its afternoon counterpart. Jedd Gyorko, who hit the decisive two-run homer in the Cardinals' one-run win earlier, went deep in the second inning against Bartolo Colon. The similarities ended there in the Mets' 3-1 win, as Colon allowed nothing more and Asdrubal Cabrera paced New York's offense with two RBIs.

7/26/2016 | Verrett faces surging Waino in rubber match at Citi

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has insisted the club will likely not trade for a starting pitcher, meaning Logan Verrett will remain in the rotation for the foreseeable future. The right-hander starts Wednesday night against Cardinals righty Adam Wainwright, who has rebounded from a rough start to his season.

7/26/2016 | Gyorko's HR helps Cards edge Mets in DH opener

A fickle National League Wild Card race took another turn on Tuesday afternoon, when the Cardinals beat Noah Syndergaard and the Mets, 3-2, in the first game of a twinight doubleheader at Citi Field. That allowed St. Louis to leapfrog the Mets at least temporarily in the NL standings, in what was the first of six meetings between the teams this season.

7/25/2016 | Take 2, play 2: Cards, Mets open with twin bill

The Mets and Cardinals will play a single-admission doubleheader on Tuesday, with the first game scheduled to start at 4:10 p.m. ET and the second commencing approximately a half hour after the first.

7/25/2016 | Wright welcomes first child, Olivia Shea

David Wright and his wife, Molly, welcomed their first child into the world on Saturday. Fittingly, her middle name is Shea. Olivia Shea Wright weighed in at 8 pounds, 11 ounces, and the Mets said in a statement that "Mom, Dad and Olivia are doing great."

7/25/2016 | Mets-Cardinals rained out; twin bill today

Monday's series opener between the Mets and Cardinals was postponed due to rain. The teams will play a single-admission doubleheader today beginning at 4:10 p.m. ET, with the second game beginning approximately a half hour after the first.

7/25/2016 | Mets unlikely to repeat mega Deadline deal

Nearly one year to the day after altering franchise history with a non-waiver Trade Deadline deal for Yoenis Cespedes, general manager Sandy Alderson said the Mets are unlikely to make a similar type of big-splash move.

7/24/2016 | Rumor roundup: Mets reportedly pursuing Lucroy

The rumor mill was focused on Aroldis Chapman on Sunday night, with the Yankees reportedly nearing an agreement to trade their closer to the Cubs. But with the Aug. 1 non-waiver Trade Deadline now a week away, many other potential deals are in the works as well. Here is a look at the rest of the developing news from around the league.

7/24/2016 | Lopez among top prospect performers Sunday

Nationals No. 5 prospect Reynaldo Lopez is among the top prospect performers in the Minors on Sunday.

7/24/2016 | Matz earns 1st win since May with stellar start

Steven Matz put together just the start the Mets were hoping for in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Marlins. The command was on, and any suspicions that the bone spur in his left elbow had affected him recently were put to rest.
