Managerial and Coaching Career

Returns for his fifth season as the Dodgers' first base coach and also coaches baserunning for the team...along with Rick Honeycutt, is the Dodgers' longest tenured coach in uniform...works closely with the Dodgers' Latin players... coached with the Triple-A Las Vegas 51s in 2005...in 2004 was a coach with the Double-A Jacksonville Suns...began his coaching career in 2003 with the Gulf Coast League Dodgers.

Playing Career

Made his Major League debut starting at second base for the Dodgers on April 9, 1985...started out as a switch-hitting middle infielder with blazing speed, who on occasion would have bunts turn into doubles...eventually played all four infield positions and some outfield in his 12-year Major League career...stole a career-high 48 bases for the Dodgers in 1986...swiped 38 bases in his rookie year of 1985...eventually changed to hitting exclusively right-handed...ranks eighth all-time in game played among Dodgers from the Dominican Republic (376)...on July 18, 1989 was traded with Tim Leary to the Cincinnati Reds for Kal Daniels and Lenny Harris...batted a career-high .306 in 1990 for the Reds... won World Series with the 1990 Reds and 1996 New York Yankees...signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Phillies before the 1992 season...was selected to the 1994 NL All-Star team while with the Phillies...played for the Yankees in 1996 and part of 1997, before being traded to Toronto...spent the 1998 season playing in Japan.

Mariano Duncan Nalasco is married to Toronto native Monique Weithers...he has three sons: Mariano Jr. , Christopher, and Dustin...his favorite hobby is golf...as a youth in the Dominican Republic, played with fellow future big leaguers Juan Samuel and Tony Fernandez...his idol growing up was Cesar Cedeño...inducted into the Dominican Republic Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008...has seven brothers and three sisters...was signed by Ralph Avila on Jan. 8, 1982.
