Biography:
Gregory Alan Maddux...married, Kathy, with one daughter, Amanda Paige (12/9/93) and one son, Chase Alan (4/7/97)...a 1984 graduate of Valley High School (Las Vegas) where he was All-State in baseball his junior and senior seasons...played on the Major League All-Star team that toured Japan after the 1988 season...hobbies include golf and video games...along with his wife, heads up the Maddux Foundation, which is involved in several charitable activities.

SUMMARY: In his first season with San Diego, went 14-11 with a 4.14 ERA (91 ER/198.0 IP) over 34 starts... the Padres were 19-15 in his starts...posted at least 13 wins for the 20th consecutive season, establishing a Major League record...allowed 92 runs (91 earned) and 14 home runs, his lowest totals since 2002 for Atlanta... issued just 25 walks, his fewest since 1997...averaged a Major League-best 1.1 walks per 9.0 innings...made at least 30 starts for the 12th straight season and 18th overall in his career...the 12 straight seasons with 30 or more starts are tied with Tom Glavine for the most among active pitchers, while the 18 campaigns with 30 starts are tops among active hurlers and tied for third all-time with Phil Niekro and Warren Spahn, trailing Don Sutton (20 seasons) and Cy Young (19 seasons).

FOR THE RECORDS: Earned his 13th victory of 2007 on 9/18 vs. PIT, recording his 20th consecutive 13-win season...according to the Elias Sports Bureau, the 20 straight seasons with 13 or more wins are a Major League record, passing Cy Young who accomplished the feat in 19 consecutive seasons, 1891-1909...collected his 10th win of the season 8/24 at PHI, marking his 20th straight season with at least 10 wins...the 20 consecutive campaigns with 10 or more wins set a Major League record, surpassing Cy Young's mark from 1891-1909 (Elias Sports Bureau)...the 20 seasons with at least 10 wins are also tied with Nolan Ryan for the second-most 10-win seasons all-time, trailing Don Sutton who recorded at least 10 wins in 21 seasons during his career.

NO WALKING: Did not walk a batter for 59.2 consecutive innings, 7/28-9/18...walked Roy Oswalt in the second inning on 7/28 in Houston and then faced 244 batters without a walk until he issued a free pass to Jason Bay of the Pirates in the bottom of the third inning, 9/18 at PETCO PARK...the 244 batters faced without a walk was the second longest such streak of his career, as he went 289 batters without a walk from 6/20- 8/12/01 (Elias Sports Bureau)...the 59.2 frames was the second-longest walkless streak of his career, trailing his National League record 72.1 consecutive innings without a walk in 2001...the 59.2 innings are also the second-most in Padres history behind Randy Jones' club-record 68.0 walkless frames in 1976.

AUGUST AND EVERYTHING AFTER: Went 3-1 with a 2.37 ERA (10 ER/38.0 IP) in six August starts... San Diego was 5-1 in those outings...struck out 21 batters and walked none in the month...one of only two Major Leaguers in 2007 to pitch 30.0 or more innings in a month without issuing a base on balls, joining Cleveland's Paul Byrd who went 40.0 innings in May without allowing walk...won a season-high five straight decisions 8/14-9/8, posting a 1.89 ERA (8 ER/38.0 IP) over six starts during that span...San Diego won all six of those starts...finished the season with a 7-2 record in his last 10 starts (Padres were 8-2)...allowed three runs or less in eight of those 10 starts and one run or fewer on four occasions.

ON THE BASE PATHS: Became the second oldest pitcher to steal a base when he swiped second 7/23 at COL at 41 years, 100 days old...only Jim Kaat was older when he stole a base on 6/23/80 at 41 years, 229 days old...pinch-ran on 8/5 vs. SF, marking his his ninth-career pinch-running appearance and first since 6/4/88 at NYM as a member of the Cubs.

GOING THE DISTANCE: Recorded his 109th career complete game 5/14 vs. CIN...allowed one run on five hits and struck out five batters in the Padres 7-1 win...the only San Diego hurler to notch a complete game in 2007...marked his first complete game since 9/27/05 for the Cubs vs. the Pirates.
